Environment

We take our environment seriously and wish to preserve it for the benefit of our grandchildren and the community at large. We are progressively moving towards creating a more sustainable way of living and assisting other organisations in their efforts to better the Kapiti Coast environment.

Energy - what we do

  • Monitor our energy usage (gas and electricity)
  • Minimise energy consumption (cold wash laundry)
  • Switch off heated towel rails between guests
  • Turn off appliances in standby mode
  • Have motion sensor controlled external lighting
  • Give guests option not to have fresh towels every day
  • Washing dried outside whenever possible
  • Progressively change to low energy light bulbs

Conservation - what we do

  • Plant more trees to attract birdlife
  • Work on Lions Club conservation projects
  • Use appropriate chemicals for garden management

Waste Management - what we do

  • Use biodegradable detergents and cleaning materials
  • Avoid waste food in the kitchen
  • Recycle cardboard, newspapers, glass, plastics and steel tins
  • Process food waste in our worm farm/compost for the garden
  • Recycle coffee grounds in the garden
  • Procure toiletry items in bulk and reuse containers
  • Repair rather than replace machinery and appliances
  • Reuse stationery

  • Buy local produce
  • Use local trade people
  • Give older appliances to those in need or hospice shop
